The Update on Balange

So I haven't written on here for a while! I guess I've just been pretty busy with things...It's pretty great to be done with connections though.
We went to Moose Jaw this week for band. It was pretty exciting! haha. It was like a 6 hour drive. The bus was pretty nice, so I guess that was good. We played in the afternoon, and in the evening we watched an air force band perform. It was pretty hardcore they had some Gwen Stefani goin on! haha I enjoyed it. And the MC was Davis from Corner Gas! Not like I really watch that show, but it's still cool to be sitting a few metres from a guy who is on TV! The next day, we went to the science centre. That was pretty fun! lol Little Cait was so pumped! After that, we played laser tag, which was pretty sweet too, Although I wasn't that great. I was at like 14th place out of 22 people haha. But ya, the trip was a pretty good time.

So my school week was pretty short with two days in Moose Jaw. Now my job is to get my camp staff form in. Seriously I am such a procrastinator! Maybe I'll try to get that done today... or tomorrow... Cause that's what long weekends are for, right? I haven't really done much this weekend... Oh, but I saw the new Narnia movie on Friday! It was pretty great! It was a bit long (over two hours) but it was still good. I also ordered the new We Shot the Moon CD from CDplus. I was pretty pumped! haha. But who knows when it will come in...Other than that, I haven't been up to that much. I guess I should probably get a start on that staff form...

Mexico!

Well it's been two days since I've been home from Mexico. And I gotta say, it was probably the best time I've had in my life!! It was so fun travelling with the Youth group! We stayed in San Diego the first night, and went to Seaport Village the next day. It was nice to hit some warm weather! Seaport village was a blast, going around taking lots of pictures and going to the little shops!

Later, we went to the YWAM base in Tijuana. It kind of interesting because it's like 15 minutes from San Diego to Tijuana and you don't even have to stop at the border. Now getting back into America, that's a different story. There was like a three hour line up of cars. Ya, pretty intense. Plus there was an hour time change from san diego to Tijuana since Tijuana didn't have daylight savings time yet. So there was a total three hour difference from Tijuana and Home.
But ya so we went to the base which was in a nice location since it was by the ocean. Our girls stayed in one room with a bunch of three bed bunk beds crammed together. I'm kinda glad it was just our youth group in that room since the guys had to share a different building with other guys from other youth groups.
A normal day consisted of waking up before 6 AM, showering, then chilling outside til breakfast. After breakfast there were devos which we did by the ocean. Afterwards, there was worship and then we would be off for the day and get back at the base around 5:00. We had sessions in the evenings, or sometimes team time. Then we usually went for ice cream at an amazing place where they made the ice cream themselves! It was sweet.

Sunday, our youth group did a church service at a church in a not so wealthy area in Tijuana. We went around the homes and called out good morning to the people and invited them to come to church. We did a service in the morning for the kids which was really fun and cute, and then a service in the afternoon for the older people. I gotta say, those mexicans sure know how to worship! It was so awesome to see them so passionate about God! It was fun and we also got to do our dramas for them.

Monday, we started on building the houses. Since our group was so big, we got divided into two, so we could build two houses. The houses were close so that was good. I mainly painted non stop that day. I can't believe how much we got done just in one day!

Tuesday, back to the house! We got the roof done and mostly everything on the inside. I helped hammer some dry wall and I got to play with the kids from the family and area a lot. We even went to a play ground that was down the hill of the house. Wow those were deathly hills though! I was so scared I would fall and die, but thank goodness we didn't. It was great spending time with the kids!

Wednesday, we finished the house! We assembled furniture for the house. We presented the house to the family. It was really awesome that we all worked together for this so that we could provide a home for them. It went by really fast and was a really sweet experience. After presenting the houses, we did our dramas for the families. After that, we went to an area near a garbage dump and handed out stuff to a lot of people in that area who came, like food, toys and stickers. It kind of broke my heart that those people didn't have very much and I couldn't do more to help them... but hopefully we helped them in a small way by providing them with some things they needed and playing with the children. It's so great to see those smiling faces. :) It's intersting how we can take so much for granted back here at home and be disatisfied, where as the people in mexico can wear big smiles on their faces while having so little... That night I wondered how the families liked their new houses we built for them. I hope they are doing good.

Thursday, we went to an orphanage in the morning. Since the kids had school, we didn't get to play with them as much as we wanted to but it was still fun. There were lot's of kids there that came from a lot of different situations. I'm glad that we got to play with them and be able to see them smile. When we first started playing with the kids, I saw a cute one who was sitting by himself on a bench. I sat down by him and introduced myself. His name was Denae. I gestured to play with him and he grabbed my hand and started leading me around the area. He got right into it and spoke a bunch of spanish and pointed out all his amigos to me. It was so cute. He also used my pocket to stash the balloons he got haha. It was cute, he would dig around in my pocket to get balloons and give some to his friends. And when I showed him a sheet of stickers, he would take it and offer to the other kids and his friends. It was so sweet. We also got to do a drama for the kids. But after that, they had to go back to class. We went and did some jobs around the orphanage to help out however we could. I cleaned a bathroom, folded laundry, and peeled onions. I wish we could have stayed there longer. :( That afternoon, we went to rosarito to go to the market. It was pretty cool. I bought a few things there. And the beach down there was soo nice. It was so beautiful! The water was so nice!

The week went by so fast! It was so amazing! Like the days would go by pretty slow, but once they went by, it felt like so quick! Thursday night I caught my last sunset by the ocean. It was the best one that week. We were going to be leaving for San diego at 3 in the morning that night so I didn't really sleep. We had a flight around 7:30 in the morning to Salt lake city, and then a three hour layover til we could fly back to Fargo. Then a five hour drive. So it was a very long day. We lost a few hours too since the time change. But I finally got home around 11:00 PM. Even though it was nice to be home and sleep in my own bed, I already miss Mexico so much. I miss the kids, the church, the sessions, the ocean... It was such an amazing experience. I know I will be going back some day... Hopefully someday soon...

Mexico

So I can't believe it's already here. Tomorrow our Youth group is going to Mexico... It almost seems unreal. We've worked hard for this. Dinner theatres, church lunches and everything else. And now we get to experience what all those fundraisers were going towards. I'm soo excited! One week in Tijuana! Our group is pretty big (50 people), so we'll be building two houses there! We'll also be going to an orphanage and putting on some skits. I think this is going to be a really amazing experience! And I think the plane ride will be pretty fun too! haha It will be pretty great going with the group! Ahh I'm so excited I won't be able to sleep tonight! haha. I'm not even done packing! I've just had random stuff sprawled all over the floor this week. I should better get on packing that stuff into my back pack though. See you in a week. Have a good spring break :D

What an Adventurrre

So yesterday I had quite the time. After school, Ben came and picked me up and we headed off to brandon. Simona was supposed to meet us at the mall, but when we went there, and we definately did not see her. So, we drove across the city to futureshop to get guitar hero 3. We decided to go back to the mall to see if poor simona had been waiting for us during that time but when we arrived, still no simona t! How dispointing eh? Tried looking up her number in the phone book but it wasn't there! So we decided to go to tim hortons and ask SJ what simona's number was. We started driving across the city, and then we realized we were heading to the wrong tim hortons, so we had to turn around and search for the new one. We went and asked SJ for Simona's phone number. Unfortunately, she didn't have her number, so instead she gave us some not-very-good directions drawn out on a napkin. "You turn and go through two stoplights and over the tracks and you turn and there's a 7 eleven and then there's this hook thingy and her's is the first apartment" And to "narrow" it down, she told us the apartment building was a tan color. Great. So we went on this great voyage to find Simona's house. It would have been great if we had like a street name you know or house number... that would have been helpful, but no, we had a nice pen drawing made up of some lines and squares on a tim horton's napkin to help us find simona's house in part of a city we were not familiar with haha. So we followed the special napkin but it did not lead us to the right spot at all...and we didn't see a 7 eleven. So we continued and i kind of had an idea of where this 7 eleven was so we kept drivin around....and luckily i also faintly remembered the name of Simona's street from the camp stalker list. So we looked out for that too and after half an hour or more we hit that street AND the 7 eleven! So we looked for a tan apartment, and i'll tell ya, there are a lot of tan apartments. As we drove we would say "hmmm would Sj call this building tan?" or "hey that looks like a place where simona would live. That must be it..." We rang the doorbell at one building. Ya definately not the right one haha. Then we looked at a few other buildings but still no luck! We were so close too but we just couldn't figure out which building was hers... Ya that was quite the hour we had searching for that darn apartment! But it was a good time haha. It was past 7 by that time so we went to Boston pizza. The rest of the night consisted of going to Ruckers and back to Tim hortons. Even though we never did see simona t haha (wow i hope she wasn't waiting at the mall the whole night for us or anything...) it was still a very fun night.

Today, I had no school! I went to brandon again to pick up a few things for mexico... Ah I can't believe mexico is coming in a week!! I'm so excited!!...

A vent on uneventful events.

So here I am sitting in ICT bored as can be. Oh woe is me. I have nothing to do, so that's why I am writing on this thing. And this afternoon will be just as boring since I have double science. Blah. Physics is SO BORING!! ... Anyways, thanks goodness for the four day weekend! Maybe I'll actually do something interesting. Seems like there's nothing to do these days. If i'm not busy doing something, I'm bored as ever. But I'm really looking forward to the end of the day. I'm going to Brandon with Ben. It will be pretty exciting I must say haha. But after tonight I don't know what else I will have planned for the weekend. Hopefully I won't waste the weekend away. I need to do some last minute shopping and pick up a few things for Mexico. I can't believe we're leaving in 9 days!! I'm so excited it's unreal! Wooo!

Anyways, that is all I have to say about my uneventful life. Good day.

Oh, and last night I can't believe Boys like Girls were in Winnipeg!!! I missed Martin!!! How tragic...
